Solid Rock was approached by The Communications Firm to launch the new IBM research lab located at the Tshimologong Precinct Technology hub in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The launch event involved us needing to conceptualize and implement a way to showcase what the scientists & doctors at the centre did, so that visitors could understand their algorithms and information from an interactive electronic platform. We designed custom apps & creative ways of displaying this information. Solid Rock managed the set elements, content development for apps & all technical relating to them. Each touch point needed to be interactive. With the huge success of the launch, the client requested that we turn this in to a permanent installation within their existing boardroom spaces with various technical elements now needing to be adapted for this. The Installation included: The laser interactive touch was changed to a primeTOUCH screen, imported from Germany. This screen is the largest interactive touch wall in South Africa. With an overall size of 252”, the screen needed to be not only large but also interactive. Thanks to an IR frame that was installed around the video wall, the total wall became interactive using 32 touch points simultaneously. Based on this primeTOUCH customised solution, several users can use the video wall at the same time by maximum precision and minimum latency. Its robust technique and flexibility allows it to be built up top 500” or more. PrimeTOUCH can be used on any video wall and be transported very easily as the touch electronic itself comes in several smaller pieces which can be easily nested on site. For this installation we needed to design and build a custom frame for the screens to be mounted as well as manufacture the touch frame. All sound, microphones, display units and set elements were designed, installed and managed by Solid Rock. A custom triggered pneumatic sign at the outside doorway entrance was designed & built at our premises. All custom applications built for the various departments running on multiple touch screens throughout the centre were conceptualized, built and are now managed by Solid Rock. Our team is currently conceptualizing the upgrade to the current space as well as a new installation that will be part of the new building space towards the end of the year.
